Magic Movement: This class is for the new dancer ages 3-4 and is designed to instill a love of dance in an age appropriate way. This class includes some beginner ballet dance instruction as well as dance games intended to teach following directions. The class meets once a week for 45 minutes; this includes about 10 minutes of introduction to tap.
Creative Movement: This class is for the pre-schooler ages 4-5 and builds upon skills learned in Magic Movement. The class encourages body awareness skills which are essential to future ballet studies. Some ballet instruction, introduction to barre, as well as dance games are included. Creative Movement often incorporates children’s ideas into established curriculum. This class meets once a week for 1 hour and includes about 15 minutes of tap.
Magic/Creative Movement: This class is a combination of the two classes above and can accommodate the pre-schooler, minimum age three.
Kinderdance: Is for the Kindergartner or the child who is turning 5 during the fall and meets after school once a week and is for 1 hour. This class builds upon skills learned in Creative Movement and introduces more proper ballet terminology and steps in fun and non-competitive way. Kinderdance includes ballet instruction, barre, as well as dance games, and 15 minutes of tap. No pre-requisite.
Intro to Ballet: This class is for the first grader and meets once per week for one hour. The class builds upon skills previously learned in Kinderdance but can also accommodate beginners. The class includes ballet instruction, beginning ballet terminology, barre work. No pre-requisite.
Ballet One: Is designed for ages 7-8 and meets once a week for 1 hour. In this class, children begin to understand many ballet terms and build upon skills previously learned in Intro to Ballet. The class includes ballet instruction with barre work, ballet terminology, some center work, and concentrates on learning proper ballet placement. Some previous experience is helpful but not necessary. No pre-requisite.
Ballet Two: This class is for ages 8-9 with previous ballet experience. Children in this class begin to understand many ballet terms and continue working on proper placement in more complicated steps. The class includes ballet instruction with barre work and center work, and meets once a week for 1¼ hours. Pre-requisite: Ballet 1 or teacher recommendation.
Ballet Two/Three: Is designed for two kinds of dancers: 1) For the Ballet 2 student who would like to take an additional class, or 2) for the Ballet 3 dancer who would take this as their second or third class. This class meets once a week for 1½ hours and covers ballet instruction, ballet terms, barre work and center work. Please Note: This Saturday class is required for certain parts in the Nutcracker. One option available is to sign up for this class from September through the Nutcracker (12wks). However, the children who take this class for the entire year will be in an additional recital piece.
Ballet Three: This class is for 9-11 year olds with previous ballet experience. A thorough knowledge of ballet terms is required. Most dancers in this class have taken Ballet Three for at least one year. This class meets twice a week for 1¼ hours. This level requires a three class commitment. Pre-requisite: Ballet Three or teacher recommendation. Please Note: Nutcracker parts available to this class will require enrollment in the Saturday class.
Ballet Four Workshop: This class is for the 11-13 year olds as their fourth ballet class. Dancers in this class have taken Ballet Four/Five previously or have teacher recommendation. The dancers in this group are skilled in their knowledge of ballet and barre terms, and have built up the strength to handle this level. This level is for the pre-pointe and beginner to intermediate pointe dancers. Students in this group take a minimum of three ballet classes per week and one Enrichment Class (i.e. Jazz). Pre-requisite: Teacher recommendation.
Ballet Four/Five: This class is for the 10-14 year olds who have taken Ballet Four/Five previously or have teacher recommendation. The dancers in this group are skilled in their knowledge of ballet and barre terms, and have built up the strength to handle this level. This level is for the pre-pointe and beginner to intermediate pointe dancers. Students in this group take a minimum of three ballet classes per week and one Enrichment Class (i.e. Jazz). Pre-requisite: Teacher recommendation.
Pre-Pointe: This additional half hour class meets twice per week and includes pre-pointe exercises designed for those dancers getting ready to go on pointe. Pre-requisite: Teacher recommendation required.
Pointe: This half hour class meets three times per week and is designed for those dancers on pointe to strengthen their body and knowledge of being on pointe. Both barre and center work will be included. Saturday’s pointe class from September – December will be during the Ballet 6/7 class. Students on pointe will be required to stay during this time. From January – June class will be held right after Ballet 4/5.
Ballet Six/Seven: This is for the advanced ballet dancer who has been on pointe for a minimum of 2 years. They have full knowledge of ballet and barre terms and have developed strength and endurance. A minimum of three ballet classes per week are required, however four classes are recommended. Pre-requisite: Previous Ballet Six/Seven or Teacher recommendation.
Jazz 1: This beginner class is for dancers in Ballet 2 and up (or have teacher recommendation). Jazz meets once per week for one hour. Jazz pants and Jazz shoes are required.
